AT&T announces the LG Thrive and LG Phoenix

AT&T today announced two new Android smartphones that will represent affordable choices compared to some of their more recent high-end announcements. They’re LG Thrive (right) and LG Phoenix (left). Both phones are based on LG Optimus One, the little popular device we can buy from every carrier that ever existed. LG Thrive is AT&T’s first prepaid smartphone, it’ll be available for $179.99 without a contract. A $179.99 price tag might seem a little steep for this phone, until you realize that you’re saving a lot of moolah on the long term by going the prepaid route. ViewSonic ViewPad 7x World's first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet

ViewSonic has just been showcased at Computex 2011. Called the ViewPad 7x, this Android Honeycomb tablet is equipped with an 7-inch display, dual cameras (both front and rear facing), HSPA+ connectivity, DLNA and HDMI support and a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor. LG Optimus 3D the first dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory architecture smartphone

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 14th 2011, LG announces the 3D video-capable Optimus 3D smartphone. LG Optimus 3D smartphone builds on the Optimus 2x and Optimus Black that LG announced last month at CES. You'll find a similar design candy bar design in basic black. LG was quick to point out the Optimus 3D's "tri-dual' configuration, which includes a 1GHz dual-core processor, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture. And just as important, the company said the handset can record, view and share 3D content. We're still not sure what to think of this concept, but we'll get a better demonstration of the technology later today.

To record 3D, the Optimus two 5.0-megapixel cameras on its back side; you won't need glasses to watch recorded video, and a 3D "Hot Key" will deliver five 3D-dedicated user interfaces. Video resolution is up to 1080p for 2D clips and up to 720p for 3D.

Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a personal organizer, USB syncing and mass storage, GPS, a music player, 8GB of internal memory, a 1,500 mAh battery, and support DLNA/HDMI connections. The LG Optimus 3D will start a global roll out in Europe in the second quarter of this year.

The upcoming LG Optimus 3D smartphone will feature the most awesome augmented reality app to date! In collaboration with Wikitude, LG offers users place-info on over 100 million locations world-wide. Users can get detailed information about their surroundings including sightseeing spots, restaurants, landmarks, shops and other places of interest along with links to Wikipedia, Flickr and Twitter. All of this is shown in 3D, meaning objects will stand out depending on the distance and or relevance instead of simply mapping the geo-spots. A thousand content providers have signed up to enrich the 3D-AR app and it all becomes possible thanks to what LG calls the first dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory architecture; that is the LG Optimus 3D. The smartphone will be able to show glasses-free 3D content and be able to record and share content in 3D as well.

The phone will be available in June as well as the app which will be downloadable from LG World, their propriety app store.

Sony Ericsson W8 first Walkman Android Phone

Sony Ericsson has announced its first ever Walkman brand smartphone running Google Android 2.1 Eclair update in Indonesia. Sporting 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, the new Sony Ericsson W8 walkman smartphone looks very similar to Xperia X8. There's no word on the pricing and this phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malayasia, Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in Azure Blue, Metallic Red and Iconic Orange.

New Sony Ericsson W8 has a 3-inch capacitive HVGA (320x480) display and houses 600Mhz processor under the hood. With 128MB memory on board, this handset comes with Android 2.1 Eclair running on it and I doubt if it will get Froyo richness. Kindly forget about the phone getting Gingerbread. Branded as a Walkman series smartphone, Sony Ericsson W8 will have Walkman Music Player ported to Android, TrackID music recognition, and PlayNow technologies. At the back lies a 3.2 megapixel camera that would give you mediocre quality photos along with Geo-tagging capability.

Being 3G Network compatible, Sony Ericsson W8 Android phone offers 23 hours and 40 minutes worth of music listening time. The phone is connectible wirelessly via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Apart from that, Sony Ericsson W8 offers Twitter and Facebook integration in the Timescape UI.

BlackBerry roadmap 2011

RIM is currently prepping two new non-touchscreen additions to its Curve line this year, codenamed the Apollo (GSM) and Sedona (CDMA). On top of that, the company is said to be working on a full touchscreen Curve, appropriately dubbed the Curve Touch. Now, to confuse matters even further, BlackBerry enthusiast blog N4BB reveals an image of what it purports to be the BlackBerry Orlando — which is apparently just like Apollo and Sedona, but with the addition of a touchscreen. RIM is working on a new device codenamed BlackBerry Orlando. BlackBerry Orlando will have an almost identical form factor as the BlackBerry Sedona/Apollo. However, BlackBerry Orlando will have a touchscreen, think of it as a ‘mini-Bold Touch’. Basically, BlackBerry Orlando will be a higher-end version of the Sedona/Apollo. This could put BlackBerry Orlando in the same ‘Curve Touch’ category as BlackBerry Malibu. As we’ve seen, BlackBerry Malibu will be a full touchscreen device. Of course, BlackBerry Orlando will include a physical keyboard.

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook an ideal tablet for business

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is a tablet computer announced by Research In Motion (RIM), the Canadian telecommunications company best known for the BlackBerry smartphone, on September 27, 2010. The company indicated it would deliver the machine to enterprise customers and developers in October 2010, and release it to consumers in early 2011, putting it in direct competition with Apple's iPad, iPad 2, and a slew of Android powered tablets. Also announced was a new operating system, the BlackBerry Tablet OS, based on QNX Neutrino, to run on the tablet. The device was released for general purchase in the United States on April 19, 2011, and early sales figures note that approximately fifty thousand (50,000) were sold on launch day, and some analysts estimate RIM to sell 3 million during their first year. The tablet has been surrounded with much hype since it was announced and received positive reviews from technology critics including at the Consumer Electronics Show. It was rumored for some time that the Playbook would be able to run Android applications, which was finally confirmed. Although the PlayBook won't be able to directly run Android applications, developers merely have to resubmit their app to RIM's App World to be available on the PlayBook.

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook supports up to 1080p video playback. PlayBook Features a 3 MP front-facing camera for video chatting over Wi-Fi and a rear-facing 5 MP camera that records 1080p video. The PlayBook has a 1024×600 WSVGA, 7-inch display and 3D graphics acceleration, as well as HDMI-out. It features a variety of sensors, including gyroscope, magnetometer, and accelerometer. The PlayBook uses Texas Instruments OMAP4430 Processor. The BlackBerry PlayBook supports high resolution video playback (H.264, MPEG4, WMV), and audio (MP3, AAC 5.1, WMA 5.1 audio playback) formats. It also has a micro-HDMI port for HDMI video output. Among the PlayBook, Apple iPad, & Xoom from Motorola, the PlayBook comes in lightest at .9 LBs, compared to 1.33 LBs & 1.59 LBs, respectively.

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook includes a pre-loaded app offering access to 1,500 films from the National Film Board of Canada. Other PlayBook apps include iSpeech Translator, Cocktales, and Adobe Connect Mobile. As many as 30000 applications will be released in the coming months.

HTC unveils HTC Flyer with Android 2.4

HTC announced HTC Flyer, a 7-inch tablet that runs Android 2.4 with a customized HTC Sense user interface. The company debuted the device at Mobile World Congress (MWC) and spent time demonstrating the 3-D Sense widget interface as well as another unique feature: an included stylus pen. Using the pen on the Flyer’s touch-sensitive display allows for note-taking and limited drawing activities. Also included is support for HTC’s new video download service —  HTC Watch — and OnLive’s cloud gaming system. HTC unveils HTC Flyer with Android 2.4

HTC Flyer is a compact 7-inch touchscreen Android 2.3.3 tablet with 600x1024 pixels res, which will come with an integrated pressure-sensitive pen experience, courtesy of the new HTC Scribe technology. The feature will be used for note-taking and drawing. The tablet will be constructed out of HTC trademark aluminum unibody. It will be powered by a single-core 1.5GHz processor, and will feature 1GB RAM, coupled with 32GB of built-in storage (microSD slot is available). For photo and video taking the tablet biz will offer a 5MP main shooter, as well as a secondary 1.3MP front-facing cam for video chats. Powering all this goodness will be courtesy of a 4000mAh battery that is said to provide up to 4 hours of constant video playback.

HTC expects to ship the Flyer globally in the second quarter of 2011.

IMGA (International Mobile Gaming Awards) has announced during the 2011 Mobile World Congress the results of the 7th annual mobile games competition. We have previously reported, one month ago to be more precise, all the nominees for the world's best Mobile phone games. Best mobile games 2010

Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. Google Inc. purchased the initial developer of the software, Android Inc., in 2005. Android's mobile operating system is based on the Linux kernel. Google and other members of the Open Handset Alliance collaborated on Android's development and release. Android is an operating system mainly developed for mobile devices but also has been seen on different internet tablets. This OS is built using the Linux kernel and is totally open source. It has been at first developed by Android Inc. but Google has purchased it and continued the development later on.

Android has a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality of the devices. There are currently over 150,000 apps available for Android. Android Market is the online app store run by Google, though apps can also be downloaded from third-party sites. Developers write primarily in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.
The collaboration of a huge community worldwide, bugs tracking and continuous updates and fixes are the main pillars that supported such an open source idea to become what we see right now. Open source can and will succeed at the very end.

Android OS is an unbridled success in the mobile market. Even with the iPhone continuing to sell well and Apple overcoming those iPhone 4 antenna critics, Google’s operating system has been able to overtake all competitors in 2010 including contenders such as Apple and Research In Motion that had years-long head starts. Worst of all for Apple, Android’s success will likely only continue in the coming months and years as more vendors and consumers jump on the Android bandwagon. But Google’s success in the mobile market didn’t come easily. The company was forced to work diligently, follow the right strategies and get to what people really wanted in order for it enjoy the success it does today. Google took risks, made sound business decisions and perhaps most importantly, delivered outstanding products to get to where it is today.

Major mobile manufacturers have chosen Android just because of the simple fact that it's open source, they can download the source code, manipulate it and do further developments and totally make it their own, and then simply put it on their mobiles. HTC has done it first and then other major players joined; Samsung and Motorola. Sony Ericsson shall also join as well pretty soon. Motorola has been losing money for a while and, Android has saved them from taking more damage. They released couple of handsets which operate on Android and are receiving huge attention.

Nokia unveiled two new smartphones

Nokia today announced two new smartphones, the E6 and the X7, both sporting the latest version of Symbian, codenamed “Anna”. The Nokia E6 adds to the business range and the Nokia X7 excels at games and entertainment. The new Anna software has new icons and usability improvements, including better text input, faster browsing and a refreshed Ovi Maps.. Nokia unveiled two new smartphones

The E6 takes over from the E71 and E72, coming with a keyboard and hi-res touch screen. Designed as a premium device with glass and stainless steel, it offers the business user access to Microsoft Exchange, Communicator and Sharepoint.

Also constructed from glass and stainless steel, it’s a solid device, albeit with an unusual design. It will come preloaded with Galaxy on Fire HD and Asphalt 5 HD games.

Both smartphone will be launched in the second quarter of this with the official in the range of $ 500 for Nokia E6 and $ 550 for Nokia X7.
