Clamshell phones were a once trendy design used for cellphones all over the world. But since the inception of smartphones, the trend seems to have died down, as it didn’t make its way over to the smartphone world. Until today. In the land of the rising sun, Japan, it appears that the clamshell form factor is still fashionable and it looks like Sharp is about to capitalize on that fact with the introduction of the Sharp AQUOS Phone The Hybrid 007SH, the world’s first Android clamshell phone.

Sharp AQUOS Hybrid 007SH phone packs Android 2.3–or Gingerbread if you like the pastry naming equivalent–backed up by a 1 GHz second-generation Snapdragon processor, and packs in a surprisingly sharp 16 megapixel camera that can not only handle 720p video but also 3D photos and 3D video besides. It’s also got a front-facing camera for video chatting, wireless internet access, a TV tuner…it’s even got a 3.4 inch WVGA 3D-capable touch screen control scheme as well as a flip-out numerical keypad.  And just to top it all off, the whole thing is waterproof.
